Preventing Attorney Suicide: Identifying Causes, Exploring Solutions, and Taking Action”
— Continuing Legal Education Course | One Hour of PMCLE Credit in Mental Health Issues

I have prepared a Continuing Legal Education Course which has been approved for one hour of PMCLE credit by the MCLE Board and the Illinois State Supreme Court in the area of Professional Responsibility, specifically Mental Health.

This course is designed to expose attorneys to the realities of anxiety, depression, and suicide in our profession. Attorneys have been found to suffer anxiety and depression at a rate five times higher than the general public. One in five attorneys has considered suicide, and attorney suicide has begun to be recognized as a crisis of epidemic proportions by County, State, and National Bar Associations.

In fact, many states, including my home state of Illinois, have made mental health awareness a mandatory category for continuing legal education requirements.

My presentation provides the following:

  • Statistics about attorney mental health issues

  • Some of the reasons why attorneys are becoming suicidal

  • Issues that impacted my personal struggle with anxiety, depression, and suicide as an attorney

  • Common remedies for attorney mental health issues

  • My personal solutions, and ideas I have discussed with other attorneys

The Illinois State Bar Association asked me to provide a short version of my CLE for their website. I hope you will share this clip with anyone who might need it, or with someone who might be interested in having me speak.

I hope you are able to attend a presentation of my CLE course. If you are interested in hosting me for a talk, contact me by visiting my contact page, and I will happily speak to your association, organization, or law firm.
